Abstract

This study highlights the increasing prevalence of fraud cases occurring through social media, which have been escalating each year. This phenomenon aligns with the rapid advancement of technology, leading society to become increasingly reliant on social media in their daily lives. One rapidly growing aspect is online buying and selling activities, where many sellers now utilize social media as their primary platform for marketing their products. While this trend offers convenience, the rise in online transactions also presents opportunities for criminal activities, particularly online fraud. This study specifically focuses on fraud cases in thrift online transactions on Instagram, given the growing popularity of thrifting among the public, especially young consumers. The appeal of thrifting as an alternative means of purchasing clothing has attracted a large number of buyers, making it an attractive target for cybercriminals. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive approach to analyze the consumption patterns of second-hand goods and their correlation with individuals' vulnerability to fraud in online transactions. The findings indicate that lifestyle patterns favoring the consumption of second-hand goods can contribute to an increased risk of falling victim to online fraud, both directly and indirectly.
