Abstract

The incidence of diabetes mellitus in Indonesia is 2% and in South Sulawesi it is 1.5% based on doctor's diagnosis in the population aged ≥ 15 years in 2018. Most cases of diabetes mellitus are in the age group 55-74 years and the female gender is the most sufferer compared to men. Several risk factors for type 2 diabetes mellitus are family history of DM, age, gender, obesity, and unhealthy diet. Junk food is food that has low nutritional value such as iron, calcium, and fiber and has a higher calorie, salt, and saturated fat content. This study used analytical observational research with a cross sectional research design to see the relationship between risk factors for junk food eating patterns in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus in Pampang Health Center, Makassar City, South Sulawesi. The data studied were obtained from primary data obtained from patients who filled out questionnaires. The test results using Wilcoxon test analysis of the frequency of junk food diet before and after suffering from diabetes mellitus showed a significant value = p value of 0.001. This value means that the P value is <0.05, which means that there is a significant relationship between the risk factors for eating junk food in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Puskesmas Pampang Makassar City, South Sulawesi. There is a change in the frequency of junk food diet before and after the patient has diabetes mellitus which indicates a relationship between risk factors for junk food diet in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus at Puskesmas Pampang Makassar City, South Sulawesi.
