Abstract

Hypertensive Disorder in Pregnancy (HDP) is one of the major causes of death in pregnant women, because this disease can cause complications in 2 – 3% of pregnancy. In Indonesia, HDP is one of the three highest causes of maternal mortality, and more than 30% of pregnant women die from HDP. There are many factors that can cause this disease, among them are the age of pregnant women 35 years old which are the age at risk for HDP incidence, the next factor is pregnant women with their first pregnancy prone to HDP because the mother is exposed to the chorionic villi for the first time which will form blocking antibodies in pregnant women. Furthermore, the nutritional status of pregnant women where pregnant women with a high (BMI) will increase plasma volume and cardiac output volume, and lastly, if there is a history of hypertension in pregnant women. This study aims to identify the risk factors that may influence the occurrence of hypertension during pregnancy. This quantitative research uses an observational analytic method with a cross-sectional study design, conducted at RSIA Sitti Khadijah 1 Muhammadiyah Makassar in October-November 2024. The sample was selected using purposive sampling and analyzed using the SPSS (Statistical Product and Service Solutions) application. Out of a total of 700 samples, 87 pregnant women who experienced hypertension and met the inclusion criteria were selected. The results of this study, using the Chi-Square test, showed a significant relationship between age (p=0.022), number of pregnancies (p=0.025), history of hypertension (p=0.019), and obesity (p=0.024) with the occurrence of hypertension during pregnancy. Age, number of pregnancies, history of hypertension, and obesity are risk factors for hypertension during pregnancy.
