Abstract

Indonesia is a nation that is prone to disaster, making it necessary to use a person’s uniqueness to help the disaster victim identification. Every person has their bodily features that can be used for identification purposes, one of them is the lip print. Prof. Dr. Moestopo (Beragama) University Faculty of Dentistry, as an educational institution, accommodates a lot of people from various backgrounds and races. Among them is the Deutero Malay sub-race, which exhibits many unique lip print patterns. The aim of this study are to present the distribution of lip print patterns using Suzuki and Tsuchihashi’s lip print classification, which be useful for identification and to demonstrate that lip prints can contribute to establishing a person’s identity. The lip print can be used for cheiloscopy, a study about lip print that can help to identify a person. This study was conducted by collecting lip print impressions from Deutero Malay students, both male and female, from Prof. Dr. Moestopo University who consented to participate. Participants were applied lipstick, and their lip prints were taken using clear cellophane tape. The impression were then adhered to white paper then observed under white light. Each impression was divided into four quadrants and the lip print patterns in each quadrant was recorded using Suzuki and Tsuchihashi’s classification. The result showed that type I’ was the most dominant type, while type IV was the least common.
