Abstract

Adolescent girls are one of the groups at high risk of anemia. This is due to the rapid growth rate and the menstrual phase which can cause iron loss and decreased hemoglobin levels. To overcome this problem, the Indonesian Government has initiated a program to provide Iron Supplement Tablets (TTD) for adolescent girls to meet their iron needs. There are 2 factors that affect hemoglobin levels, namely enhancers and inhibitors. Iron consumed together with inhibitors such as tannins, caffeine, oxalates, and phytates can contribute to anemia. One of the drinks containing iron inhibitors is tea. Tea contains tannins that can bind iron, thereby inhibiting the absorption of iron in the body. In Salatiga City, the prevalence of anemia among adolescents in 2023 was recorded at 40.05%. This study aims to determine the relationship between compliance with iron supplement tablet (TTD) consumption and tea consumption with hemoglobin (Hb) levels in adolescent girls at SMK Negeri 3 Salatiga. The method used in this study was quantitative analytic with a cross-sectional survey design. A total of 86 respondents were selected randomly using random sampling techniques. Data on compliance with iron tablet consumption were collected through questionnaires, while tea consumption was obtained through the Food Frequency Questionnaire (FFQ) form. Hemoglobin levels were measured using a hematology analyzer. For data analysis, the Rank-Spearman statistical test was used. The results of the analysis obtained a p-value of compliance with iron tablet consumption (IBT) (0.008) and tea consumption (<0.001). The conclusion is that there is a relationship between compliance with iron tablet consumption (IBT) and tea consumption with hemoglobin (Hb) levels in female adolescents at SMK Negeri 3 Salatiga.
